Marketing Challenger 2011

Marketing Challengers 2011 held by RMIT Vietnam Business Club aims to create a playground for unprofessional marketers in Ho Chi Minh City. Given this mission, the host has worked hard to bring this competition to as many privilege universities’ students as possible in this biggest city of Vietnam such as FTU, Hoa Sen, EU and RMIT. This is the chance for them to apply the theories taught in classes to real business cases.

 A lot of marketing activities were conducted within one month before the competition to ensure that all the interested students would have the chance to participate in. As a result, over 500 students in 100 teams registered to take part in have reflected the fascination as well as the result of effective marketing activities of all the members in the project.

The information session was successfully held on July 5^th, 2011 to provide an overview of the competition to all the registered teams. Despite of the hot weather on that day, the audiences were pleased to enjoy the speech delivered by the representatives from Toyota about the case study, the Project Leader – Pham Minh Dung – about the spirit in the competition and Melvin Fernando and Pakawat Kietisaksopon about the marking guidelines for their papers.

 Final Round is the biggest event of Marketing Challengers 2011 and also the ultimate goal of many challengers after passing three rounds. From over a hundred teams from various universities, our board of judges has selected the best five teams for this Final round, including Athenaris, Charis, Green Boys’ Generation, C.A.O and Leverage. It seems that the graceful support from Marketing Challengers’ fans and audiences exceeded the limited space of Melbourne Theater. Many audiences were not able to find a seat because there were too crowded due to the enthusiasm of competitors and the professional of the competition. They were patient to watch the presentations of each team and listen to the judges to find out how the participants solve the Toyota’s case and earn the big prizes.

Charis commenced the Final Round smoothly that helped warm up the whole theater, followed by Green Boys’ Generation with their lively demonstration of the red-theme dance hall. Next, C.A.O’s performance impressed the judges with their physical heights as well as knowledge height. Then, Leverage attracted audiences’ attention by their abundant and exotic marketing ideas. Last but not least, Athenaris reached to the hearts of the audiences with a romantic and emotional theme. One interesting part of the event is Question and Answer time after each presentation. The five-team had a chance to express their deep understanding by responding to tricky questions and protecting their Integrated Marketing Communication plan.

Finally, the part for which everyone was waiting had come: The Announcement of Championship. After an intensive discussion, the board of judges made the final decision. The champion of Marketing Challengers 2011 is C.A.O, who persuaded the judges with their professional manner and a practical plan. The first and second Runner-ups are Athenaris and Leverage respectively. Charis and Green Boys’ Generation shared the 4^th and 5^th place of Marketing Challengers 2011.

Marketing Challengers 2011 closed with the happiness of the winners and friendships among the teams from different universities, the event organizer from RMIT Business Club and the audiences.

Teacher’s Day 2011 for E-News

Teacher’s Day on 20 November every year has always been one of the most invaluable celebrations for both students and teachers in Vietnam. Bearing that in mind, we, RMIT students, would love to express our gratitude to our beloved teachers through various activities before and on this Big Day. We also would like to strengthen the mutual bond between teachers and students by creating interesting team games, giving the two parties to get to know each other better by holding a ceremony. Lastly, we want to show teachers how creative, dynamic and ‘crazy’ RMIT students are through many marketing events and program. This year, we plan to have a lot of exciting and creative activities such as movie making, fund raising, marketing booths and so on.

In order to successfully run these  activities for Teacher’s Day 2011, we are  going to call for participation of RMIT  volunteers and students the estimated  number of volunteers and students are  about 30-35 students (for marketing,  program and logistics) who will luckily  receive rewards for supporting and  participating with certificates and  gifts or vouchers from sponsors.

Besides that, we announce for MC  contest where we will choose the  best 2 MCs (1 boy and 1 girl) for  marketing and ceremony activities.

 Application will be start in week 1 of semester C and a live audition/interview will be held in week 2 later on. Please look forward for more announcements in the near future!

Information Session of Marketing Challengers 2011

On July 5th, the Information Session for Marketing Challengers 2011 was held at the Recreation and Events Complex (REC) of RMIT SGS Campus. This event was attended by over two hundreds students from top universities in HCMC and even other countries.

Our Marketing Challengers team had started working from 9 am assisting Toyota with the marketing information booth, both in building 1, at the north stair and on the second floor breeze way. We had drawn a lot of attentions from RMIT students on that day.

Many photos were taken at the car display area, both by our lovely Marketing Challengers members and the interested RMIT students.

The guests started to arrive at RMIT Saigon south campus at 13:00, despite the hot weather on that day. We can see how successful we were in delivering our main messages to our guests by informing and getting their interest to participate in this event.

The speech was delivered by representatives from Toyota, Tradeco, the Marketing Challengers project leader Pham Minh Dung and marketing lecturers, Melvin Fernando and Pakawat Kietisaksopon, which surely helped all the team understand about the case study as well as the strategy and mission of Toyota Motor Vietnam. 

After the Information session, the quiz and case study was uploaded on the Marketing Challengers website (http://marketingchallengers.com/) for all the team to begin the competition. It is a very promising opportunity for every team to prove that they can go beyond their talent. The deadline for submitting the quiz has passed (July 17th) but the spirit for working on the proposal has not. Let’s wait up until August 7th to check out their talent.

Marketing Challengers 2011

As published in the previous issue, Marketing Challengers 2011 is a city-wide competition that attracts over a hundred teams from various universities in Ho Chi Minh City such as RMIT, Foreign Trade, Lotus and many more. This competition is heating up as we get closer to the Final Round. Marketing Challengers 2011 is now half way through the competition already and after the success of Information Session and Marketing Quiz, the challengers are more excited than ever. All the teams finished completed submitting their Integrated Marketing Communication Proposal on 31st July and now are waiting for the results of Round 1. The top 5 teams will enjoy a Marketing Tour to Toyota and prepare themselves for the biggest challenge yet: Final Round – Presentation on 19th August at the Melbourne Theater.

People you should know

Truong Thi My Hanh, born on 05/02/1991, is a Bachelor of Commerce student at RMIT Vietnam. She is selected to be the project leader of Teacher’s Day 2011 – an annual project held on 20^th November by RMIT Business Club for the RMIT students to show their love to lecturers.

Hanh is known as a participative and active volunteer in many events organized by RMIT and Business Club. In 2010, she was a member in the core team organising Teacher’s day and also an active marketing volunteer for Career Week. Additionally, she joined as a volunteer for Terry Fox Run, Bob Dylan Concert and Orientation Day organized by RMIT Vietnam. Because of her great contribution in the previous year, RMIT Business Club has chosen her to be a project leader for celebrating the Teacher’s Day 2011. Moreover, she is also a program and logistics leader for Career Week 2011. When asked the reason she joined this event, she said that due to the recognition of Teacher’s Day as an important event of BC, she really wants to challenge herself as well as learning and having interesting experiences as the leader of the event. Moreover, she simply just wants to do the last club event before leaving.

Marketing Challengers 2011

Originally known as Marketing Competition 2010, Marketing Challengers 2011 is now a city-wide competition with participation from RMIT, FTU, Hoa Sen and many more universities. Marketing Challengers 2011 have finished marketing campaign in other universities. Now Marketing Challengers 2011 is still in the marketing stage, but focuses on RMIT campus to raise awareness among RMIT students. Nearly 20 teams have confirmed their participation in the competition, and will officially start to apply their marketing knowledge for a product of Toyota Corporation in July.

Career Week is one of the 3 biggest annual events of RMIT that attract thousands of students. It is organized by

RMITCareerCenter with the support from many departments and Business Club Volunteers.

In Career Week 2011, Business Club will be highly involved in marketing activities and supporting events, with around 80 BC volunteers recruited.

Career Week 2011 is held on week 8 this semester from 9 to 12 August but proactive BC volunteers will start Mar- keting activities from week 6 (25 July)

GRADUATION NIGHT 2011

Graduation Night is an event celebrated for RMIT graduates with the purpose of congratulating and having the chance to enjoy a warm party together before saying goodbye to the university life. This project is in progress of planning the program and marketing tools in order to raise awareness of all students at RMIT. Graduation Night will be held on 25th November this year.
